M.A. Mass Communications Strategic Communication Management Concentration

The Master of Arts in Mass Communications degree requires 36 credit hours, including at least 30 hours of structured coursework and successful completion of a final thesis or applied research project.

The strategic communication concentration provides an integrated approach to the management of communication in an organization, emphasizing theoretical perspectives from public relations, advertising, marketing, and management, among other disciplines. 91勛圖厙 will develop understanding of formal research and data analysis for campaign formation and evaluation, gain expertise in strategic messaging, and learn how to effectively manage the communication function at all levels of the workplace and across all types of organizations.

91勛圖厙 complete three core courses (9 credit hours):

  • MMC 6400 Media, Strategy, & Theory
  • MMC 6447 Quantitative Research Methods
  • MMC 6448 Qualitative Research Methods

91勛圖厙 complete the following concentration courses (12 hours):

  • PUR 6603 Strategic Communication Campaigns
  • PUR 6607 Strategic Communication Management
  • ADV 6305 Advertising Media Strategy
  • MMC 6418 Strategic Message Design 

91勛圖厙 complete 9 credit hours of electives taken in graduate-level courses offered in the Zimmerman School and/or other departments of the University in consultation with the Graduate Director.

91勛圖厙 complete 6 credit hours of Thesis or Applied Project.
